孔子语录英译

    1.己所不欲,勿施于人.Do not impose on others what you do not desire yourself.     
    2.礼之用,和为贵.The most valuable use of the rites is to achieve harmony.
    3.吾日三省吾身.I examine myself three times daily.
    4.三人行, 必有我师.Whenever I walk with two other men, I can always find teachers in them.
    5.人无远虑,必有近忧.He who does not think of the future is certain to have immediate worries.
    6.君子坦荡荡,小人长戚戚. The gentleman is open and at ease ; the small man is full of worries and anxieties.
    7.欲速则不达.Wanting to be quick prevents one from reaching the goal.
    8.性相近,习相远.By nature men are similar to one another, but learning and practice make them different.
    9.发愤忘食.Forgetting meals while studying. 
    10. 学而不思则罔,思而不学则殆.He who learns without thinking will be bewildered; he who thinks without learning will be in danger.
    11. 学而时习之,不亦说乎?Is it not a pleasure to learn and practice from time to time what is learned?    
    12. 有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎? Is it not a joy to see a friend who has come from a faraway place?
    13. 温故而知新.Finding what is new in reviewing what is old.
    14. 举一反三.Inferring three corners after being shown one. 
    15. 听其言,观其行.Watching a man's action after listening to his words.
    16. 学而不厌,诲人不倦.Studying tirelessly and enlightening others indefatigably.
    17. 过犹不及.Going too far is the same as falling short.
    18. 三十而立,四十而不惑,五十而知天命,六十而耳顺,七十而从心所欲.At thirty I was established; at forty I was no longer perplexed; at fifty I understood the will of Heaven; at sixty I followed all my desires and none of them was against the norms.  
    19. 我非生而知之. I was not born with knowledge.
    20. 有教无类.There should be education for everyone without distinction.
