Your shoes need mending.你的鞋需要补了。(mending 表示被动意义,相当于to be mended)
Have you ever thought of becoming a professional musician 你曾经想过要成为一个职业音乐家吗?(think of 是介词动词,作一整体看待。)
I can't endure the man's treating me like that. 那人那样对待我,我可受不了。(treating 之前有以所有格形式出现的逻辑主语。)
15. s.+ vt.+wh-inf.
We are discussing where to go for an outing. 我们在讨论到什么地方去郊游。
I don't know whether to send the letter airmail or not. 我不知道是否要把这信作航空寄。
16. s.+ vt.+that clause
They admitted that their experiment was a failure. 他们承认实验失败了。
Edison once remarked that genius was “two percent inspiration and ninety-eight percent perspiration.” 爱迪生曾经说过:天才是“百分之二的灵感,百分之九十八的汗水。”
注意有些后接that 从句的动词,不可以直接接名词或动名词作宾语,而需要介词:
The teacher insisted that we should go on foot.
The teacher insisted on our going on foot.
老师坚持我们走路去。
We aGREed that we should start early.
We aGREed on an early start.
我们同意早动身。
He boasted that he was the best player of the team.
He boasted of being the best player of the team.
他自夸是队里最好的选手。

Do you know what the population of Japan is 你知道日本人口有多少吗?
Everyone wondered whether or not he would give up his powerful position. 大家都想知道他是否会放弃他强有力的职权。
有些介词动词可以后接wh-从句:
High self-esteem of children did not depend upon how much the mother was at home . 孩子高度的自尊心不依赖于母亲在家时间的长短。
Everything depends on whether they can arrive here on time. 一切取决于它们是否及时赶到。
