The popular 29-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid in particular tipped to lodge a firm bid for his services.
The 2005 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Season has been displaced as United\'s first choice left-back by Patrice Evra, and Reds legend Crerand feels the lure of regular first team football elsewhere will prove too strong for Heinze.
“I think there is a strong possibility Gaby will go,” Crerand told MUTV. “That would be disappointing for the supporters and for the club.
"But since Patrice came in he has been magnificent, and Gaby must be thinking he won’t play as often as he would like. Then you see that Roberto Carlos has left Real Madrid – so they are desperate for a left-back.
“And if you are not in the team like Gaby, you are not happy. A manager would also be angry with any player who is happy sitting on the bench.”
Crerand still feels, however, that Heinze would receive ample first team chances at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson\'s rotation policy.
“There are very few players at this club who are certain of their place every week – maybe three or four," said Crerand.
“Look at the players United have used over the years who are not first choices but have ended up playing 25 games a season because of injuries, resting players and so on.”
