Silently, silently,Robert reached for his lunch. He split his sandwich and tossed half to the Loch Ness Monster. The monster ate the sandwich and smiled again. She ducked down and brought Robert a shell from the bottom of the lake.
“Then the monster reached in the boat!” shouted GREat-uncle Michael.“She grabbed(抓)me and shook me!I knew she would squeeze(挤出)out my breath if she could!”
Nessie swam to the stern.Robert gave her a pat(小块黄油).Nessie licked(舔) Robert's hand and motioned(移动)to him with her flipper. Her back was quite wide,so Robert climbed aboard.
“I wrestled the monster! We tussled(搏斗)and thrashed(猛烈扭动)!”shouted GREat-uncle Michael.“It was a terrible fight, and my life was the prize!”
Robert went for a ride on Nessie's back. She frolicked(嬉戏)in the waves, always keeping Robert high and dry.
“We battled it out up and down!”bellowed(吼叫)GREat-uncle Michael.“But I held my ground, and I gave her what for.And all through the fight,I kept quiet in the boat!”
Nessie brought Robert safely back to the boat.Robert climbed aboard, being careful to keep silent.
“I've never again seen her, from that day to this,”finished GREat-uncle Michael.“But I can tell you true,my young man,I kept quiet in the boat!”
Robert waved good-bye to Nessie.Nessie smiled and waved, too. Then she disappeared into the mist of Loch Ness.
“Pull in your line, young man,”GREat- uncle Michael told Robert.“We may as well go back.Something has frightened the fish clean away. The m onster of Loch Ness m ust be near,”added Great-uncle Michael, looking this way and that.“I know all about her,I do.”
Robert pulled in his line and gathered his fishing gear(用具).“Yes,Uncle,”he whispered, and he smiled to himself.
