“回答问题”式的“阅读理解”题，要求根据所提问题写出完整、正确的句子。这样的试题听起来似乎很难，其实真正做起来却使我们感到轻松愉快。回答问题，句子越简单越好。作为“竞赛”，答题应简洁明了，能用一个词，就不用两个词，能说明问题就行。请看2001年全国中学生英语能力竞赛初三年级组初赛试题的“阅读理解”（C）题：
（C）阅读短文，根据要求完成31—35小题，每空不得超过10个单词。
Many British children start school at age 3or 4 if there is a play school near their house．All children start primary school by the age of 5．Some parents pay for their children to attend（参加）a private（私人的）school but all children have the right to go to a state（国家）school，which is free．Later they will go to a secondary school until they are 16or 18．Some students choose to go on their higher schooling at a university or polytechnic where they study academic（学术的）subjects．Other students choose to go to college where they can study more practical（实用的）subjects like art or engineering．
31．What is the first school a child can attend？

本文讲的是“英国教育”情况，通过阅读，基本理解大意后，回答文后五个问题。要能正确回答问题，除了理解文意外，还有一个读懂“问题”的问题。如第31小题，因为问题的主语是“the first school”，“a child can attend”是它的定语，如果这一点看不出，题意都不懂，就只能蒙了。
如果短文、题目都能读懂，按照“简洁明了”的答题方针，每个小题用三个词就能清楚地答出（31．A playschool．32．A primary school．33．No，it isn't．34．16or18．35．Academicsubjects．）。而且，除了第33小题外，答案都能从短文中“摘出”。
再看“阅读理解”（F）题：
（F）下面是一则英国贝勒比斯学校校规，读后完成47—50小题，每题不超过10个单词。
Dear Students，
The following rules are for living and working in Bellerbys School．Please read them carefully．
1．Stand up when a teacher or a visitorgoes into the room．
2．You must be in a classroom or other study places during lesson time．
3．Arrive in time for the start of each lesson with the things you need so that you are ready to start work．
4．Wear smart，clean clothing．Hair must be cleanand tidy；extreme colours and styles are not allowed（允许）．Long hair must be tied back neatly．
5．Do not leave the school if you are not allowed．
6．Food and drink must not be taken outfrom the dining room．

8．Radios and personal computers mayonly be used in dormitory（寝室）house where the house rules allow．They are not allowed in classes or in the library．

要答好本题，也是先要读懂短文，看清每一条规则的具体内容。关键是要能正确理解文后的四个问题，根据对问题的理解，再到文中寻找对应的答案。首先，四个问题不是按短文内容的先后顺序排列的；其次，有的问题与短文内容稍有出入。如第47小题，问“on Wednesday”能否“go outside the school”，但文中并没有“Wednesday”，而是要根据“5．Do not leave the school if you are not allowed．”一句来判断，应回答为：No，they can't．
第48小题，参看第3条：“Arrive in time for the start of each lesson with the things you need so that you are ready to start work．”可参照“so that”从句回答：Getting ready for their lessons．第49小题的问题与“就餐”有关，文中针对“就餐”的条款是第6条，可以简答为：In the dining room．第50小题，问题的答案在文中第8条，回答：In the dormitory．就可以了。
