2.Fill in the blanks numbered 1to 7with the exact words you've just heard. For the blanks numbered from 8to 10,fill in the missing information either using the words you've heard or in your own words. You will hear the passage three times.

A superstar usually is someone who has become famous in sports,or films,or popular music, like Michael Jackson. In the middle nineteen eighties,Michael Jackson made a record album called Thriller. It quickly became the most popular recording in the history of music, and it made Michael Jackson a superstar. The word‘super’ here means something that is extremely good. And of course,a star means a person who is famous. So people use‘superstar 'to describe the top people in sports, acting and music.

One of the most famous sports superstars in the United States was a boxer named Muhammad Ali.As a young man,he won a gold medal in the Olympics as a boxer. Then he became the heavy- weight-boxing champion of the world. Before long, he was known as one of the most famous boxers in sports history.Muhammad Ali claimed when he became the world champion that he was more famous than the President of the United States. He was a true superstar.Everyone knows his name.

But like the stars in the sky,a superstar fades from sight as time passes. Many young people, for example, know little about Muhammad Ali these days.Superstars are loved by millions of people today, but forgotten tomorrow.

3.Listen to the dialogue and put the questions the woman asks in the right order according to the recording.

W:Somebody told me that you once did some busking. Is that right?

M:Oh,yeah.I mean,I did it just after university,or it was while I was at the university. But anyway in the summer once in the south of France.

W:Why was this? Were you hard up or something?

M:No.It's part of er—if you think you're a folk singer—

W:Yeah.

M:If you've...if you imagine you're a folk singer, then you've got to go busking some time. It's part of the experience of being a folk singer.

W:How did you get on?I mean,what happened?

M:Well,it wasn't bad.You see.I was a very lucky type of busker.I wasn't doing it to stay alive.

W:No.

M:I bought a return ticket from Dover to Nice,so that if anything went wrong,I could get straight back again.

W:You are all right.Yes,yes.

M:It really went very well.I started by going round the cafes every evening, and passing a hat round.

W:Yeah.Good Lord!What,what did you play?Guitar or something?

M:Yes,guitar, and sang sort of fairly ordinary folk songs. In those days it was...er all Dylan and Joan Baez type staff.

W:Yeah. And you were a raving success, weren't you?

M:(laughs)That might be a little exaggerating.I think I was moderately successful and I was joined by a young French guy I met who didn't sing and didn't play the guitar, but was a superb hat-carrier.

W:Oh,I see.

M:Er—So I would sing the songs and he'd carry around the hat.

W:Yeah,yeah.

M:It went pretty well.Quite a lot of people gave us quite a lot of money except for the English. They wouldn't give us a penny.
